According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (LH) on March 17, the government is planning to build a new mini-city in Hanam City, Gimpyeong-dong, Cho-dong and Gwangmyeong and Siheung. LH is already under consideration for the selection of candidates, and the candidates will be announced in September as soon as possible. The government has begun to develop new residential areas in the metropolitan area only after six years since the designation of the housing district (public housing district) The candidate sites are the greenbelt area where the Hengnam District Housing District project was once conducted, such as the districts of Hanban, North Gyeongbuk, and Gwangmyeong and Siheung. It is located between Seoul and Igea New Town and is rated as having excellent residential environment. The government will designate these areas as urban development areas of 300,000 to 1.5 million square meters.

 The government is also considering creating a job complex in Chin-dong, Hanan-si and Namyangju-si to create new jobs. To this end, Hanam City is in talks with the government to build a high-tech industrial complex in the area of ​​Chos Dong-dong (1.5 million ㎡), which was originally promoted as a new stays. Some areas of Namyangju are also being considered as candidates for job complexes. A government official explained, “It is necessary to build a residential land to fulfill the promise of the government, such as creating jobs and expanding rental housing supply.” LH officials also predicted that “the location of the candidate site is excellent and that Seoul’s residential demand can be distributed.”
